The previous owners really didn’t take care of it and when they left they told us the stuff was in then shed and to our surprise everything that pertained to our pool was thrown at the back of the shed now we have no cover to the pool skimmer basket so vacuuming has been a problem as the pool supply stores have no idea what make and model our skimmer basket is to be able to give us a replacement vacuum cover and it smaller than most standard models. I think that’s one of the biggest problems I’m facing right now and my water keeps getting green again. I’m ready to close my pool before I can even use it… help

Comment on The 401(k) Age 55 Rule for Early Retirement Income by Clint Lane https://www.mymoneydesign.com/401k-age-55-rule/#comment-108266 Sun, 05 Jul 2020 03:52:38 +0000 https://www.mymoneydesign.com/?p=10160#comment-108266 I got laid off from my job 1 month before the year I turn 55. (laid off Dec 1st 2018 and I turn 55 in Oct 2019). I still had pay coming to me from my company in 2019 and therefore I have a 2019 W-2 from them. Is this sufficient to use the 55 rule for my 2019 taxes? I had to pull my money from my 401k in order to live due to no job so I am looking to avoid having tp pay the 10% penalty.

Comment on Why We Started a Living Trust Instead of Just a Will by Rebecca Gardner https://www.mymoneydesign.com/revocable-living-trust-vs-will/#comment-108259 Mon, 29 Jun 2020 18:46:11 +0000 https://www.mymoneydesign.com/?p=9430#comment-108259 I was pretty surprised when you explained that it can take as long as six months for a will to completely go through the probate process. My husband and I want to meet with an estate planning attorney within the next couple of weeks so we can have peace of mind about the future of our kids and grandkids. Thanks for helping me see why we should ask about a living trust in addition to updating our will!

Comment on What is the Real Cost of Driving per Mile? by Chris Zarzycki https://www.mymoneydesign.com/what-is-the-real-cost-of-driving-per-mile/#comment-108248 Sat, 20 Jun 2020 13:54:33 +0000 https://www.mymoneydesign.com/?p=8828#comment-108248 I just ran a spreadsheet and for a new $25K auto financed at 5 years, the first year was over $1.10 per mile!

Now the more you drive, the number goes down, buy a used car and eliminate the depreciation.

You have to factor taxes, insurance and other yearly charges as while they change with then amount of miles, they are factored in as are mandatory charges.

So after 5 years, assuming you get top $ for the sale of the car, at 12K per year I get around .60 cents per mile.

After 5 years, Insurance goes down, car is paid off, property taxes are less, but maintenance goes up.. So now I can pug in numbers to my spreadsheet and compare used vs new, loan amounts and other factors.

Comment on What Happens to Your 401(k) When You Quit Your Job? by DeAnna https://www.mymoneydesign.com/what-happens-to-your-401k-when-you-quit-your-job/#comment-108155 Thu, 07 May 2020 23:34:29 +0000 https://www.mymoneydesign.com/?p=10473#comment-108155 I quit my job to go back to school. I want to use my 401K money to pay for school and live while I’m not working. The college program is an accelerated program so I do not want to work during school. I filled out the paperwork for my employer to sign so I can remove my money from my 401K. I think it is none of my past employers business what I am doing with the money so I sent him the 2 pages he needed to sign according to my plan provider. I received a message from my employer that he wants all 6 pages so he can put it in my file. Does he have authority with my 401 account to ask for all the pages. I do not want to send him the page where I check how I want my money. Again I feel he does not need to know what I did with the money. I understand the penalties with removing the money but I have another account set up with my retirement funds. Right now we are going through the COVID 19 and I know that the extra penalty is not assessed to the account when withdrawing money so I will only have to pay the federal tax-could be up to 20% and state tax possibly 7-9%..
